Important Notes for Vietnam Travelers:
1. Visa Requirements (E-Visa)
Mandatory E-Visa: Indian passport holders must obtain a valid E-Visa before traveling.
Processing Time: It typically takes 3 to 5 working days. We recommend applying at least 2 weeks before your departure to avoid last-minute delays.
Passport Validity: Your passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining from the date of arrival and at least 2 blank pages.
2. Currency & Exchange
Local Currency: The official currency is the Vietnamese Dong (VND).
Cash is King: While hotels and upscale restaurants accept cards (Visa/Mastercard), cash is essential for street food, local markets, and small shops.
Best Strategy: Carry crisp, new US Dollar (USD) bills from India. You can easily exchange them for VND at jewelry shops or banks in Vietnam for the best rates.
3. Packing Essentials
Clothing: Pack lightweight, breathable cotton clothes for the humidity. However, if traveling between December and March, Northern Vietnam (Hanoi/Halong Bay) can be chilly—carry a light jacket or sweater.
Footwear: You will be walking a lot! Bring comfortable walking shoes or sturdy sandals.
Temple Etiquette: When visiting pagodas and temples, shoulders and knees must be covered. Carrying a light scarf or sarong is very helpful.
4. Connectivity
SIM Cards: Local SIM cards (Viettel or Vinaphone) are affordable and can be purchased directly at the airport upon arrival.
Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is widely available in almost every café, hotel, and restaurant in Vietnam.
5. Food & Water
Water Safety: Do not drink tap water. Always use bottled or filtered water, even for brushing your teeth.
Vegetarian Food: Vietnam is great for vegetarians! Look for signs saying “An Chay” (Vegetarian Food). Hanoi also has excellent Indian restaurants.
6. Local Transport
Grab App: Download the Grab App (similar to Uber/Ola). It is the safest and most transparent way to book bikes or cars without having to negotiate prices with local taxi drivers.
7. Tipping & Charges
Mandatory Tipping: A tip of $3 USD per person per day for the tour guide and driver is customary and mandatory for group tours in Vietnam.
